IOWA VALLEY VS SIGOURNEY BASEBALL
Sigourney broke open what had been a close game in the top of the sixth inning to down the Tigers 6-2 as both teams wrapped up conference play on Monday, June 26.
The Tigers (7-8) used the bottom half of the fourth and fifth innings to put up one run in each and tie the game at two heading into the sixth. That’s when the Savages (15-6) broke the game open with a three run frame and added an insurance run in the seventh to put it away. The Iowa Valley squad couldn’t come up with an answer.
Iowa Valley had six hits and two runs on 31 at bats for a team batting average of .194. Tiger hitters were led by Mason Hoyt with two hits with one RBI and two stolen bases. Sigourney had nine hits and six runs on 29 at bats leading to a .310 team average.
On the mound for the Tigers, Nolan Kriegel went five complete giving up five hits, seven walks and five strikeouts for a 2.4 ERA. Caleb Haack and Caden Knapp paired for the relief giving up four runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout.
IOWA VALLEY VS SIGOURNEY SOFTBALL
A hot Sigourney softball team brought its 20-4 record to Marengo Monday, June 26 and made it a tough night for the Tigers. Iowa Valley fell in this one 11-0 in five innings.
Already with a 7-0 lead heading into the top half of the fourth the Savages knocked a three run dinger and then reloaded the bases before the first out. Two batters later a sac fly added the bonus run that ended up being the final tally.
Iowa Valley (10-13) just didn’t have any answers on the night for the Savages Junior pitcher, Carly Goodwin. Goodwin allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 10.
