My heart is so heavy following the horrific and senseless assassination of Charlie Kirk. I was praying for a miracle after we saw the initial footage, but, sadly, those prayers were not answered.
Charlie was larger than life and built his movement from the ground up — dedicating his life to engaging with America’s youth and preserving the values our nation was founded upon.
He talked to people he disagreed with — he didn’t just tweet at them — always encouraging real conversations about policies and exchange of ideas in the public sphere. While he was often attacked, he always treated everyone with respect.
His legacy will live on because he inspired a new generation of Charlie Kirks — a new generation of young conservative leaders who will engage in civil debate, share their opinions and reach out to those who don’t agree with them and spread the message of common sense conservatism.
I am devastated for his wife, Erika, and two children, and will be keeping them close to my heart as they grieve.
There is no place for politically motivated violence — or any violence — in our country. We all must work together to heal and remember there is far more that unites us as Americans than what divides us as Republicans or Democrats.
