WILLIAMSBURG — A Williamsburg High School student is the featured intern in Kirkwood Community College’s Iowa County fall newsletter.
Madalyn Ray submitted the following essay about her internship to the Kirkwood publication.
The Value of an Internship Goes Beyond Learning About Careers
My WLC internship was at Progressive Rehab in Williamsburg. I chose to do an internship in hopes of opening the door to career options, and hopefully finding out what it is I want to pursue in the future.
I spent around 32 hours in the workplace observing and learning about what it is physical therapists and physical therapy assistants do.
Through this journey, I discovered physical therapy in a business setting like this is not for me. However, what I did discover is the type of person I want to strive to be.
I spent a lot of my time working with Trevor, the physical therapist, and Julie, the physical therapy assistant. To say these people are some of the kindest, most caring people I've met is an understatement.
I was welcomed into the building without hesitation. I learned valuable life lessons from both of these two that I will most definitely carry with me for the rest of my career, whatever it is I choose to pursue.
Julie and Trevor had more of an impact on my life than I thought possible, and for that I will be forever grateful.
I am also thankful to Workplace Learning Connections for giving me the opportunity to do this internship.
