WILLIAMSBURG -- Behind Highland Ridge senior living home in Williamsburg is a walking path around a small pond, a peaceful respite in site of busy Highway 149.
“We walk around here all the time,” said Marilyn Brummel, who lives in one of the townhouses at Highland Ridge. “We try to get a mile in every day.”
But the walk is sometimes a little long without a place to stop for a moment, said Chad Driscoll, a Kiwanis member. So the local Kiwanis club donated a couple of benches were residents can take a break from a walk or sit and enjoy the weather.
The Kiwanis club donated the benches in memory of its former members who lived at Highland Ridge, said Brad Schaefer. The names don’t appear on the plaque on the benches -- which say “Donated by the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club” -- because the club didn’t want to inadvertantly leave anyone out, Schaefer said.
Garth Vonahsen of Iowa Mobile Concrete poured the foundations for the benches at cost, Driscoll said.
