LADORA — Another summer of events and fundraising for Ladora is in the planning stages.
“Every year we try to raise funds for different projects to try to upgrade our park,” said Jaimie Goeldner, president of Ladora Development Committee.
Last year the Committee raised enough money to pay for a flagpole. It also purchased an automated external defibrillator and asked for donations to recoup the cost, said Goeldner. The cost was eventually reimbursed by CTC Technology in Victor.
Another grant from an Iowa County organization paid for playground equipment. A new jungle gym and swings will be installed this year, said Goeldner.
The Ladora Development Committee lines up bands and activities for June, July and August and added a vendor fair to the mix in September of last year.
The events take place at Wayne Shaull Memorial Field pavilion in Ladora. Most of the musical performances are scheduled for 7-11 p.m. The band Grand Marshall opens the Ladora concert season June 7.
On July 12, the Ladora Development will try something new. “We’re going to do a movie night,” said Goeldner. Ladora Haunted Barn has the equipment and is partnering with Ladora Development to put on the event.
The movie will start around dusk, said Goeldner.
CC Roxx will perform during Sunday Funday, July 20, from 2-5 p.m.
On Saturday, July 26, 8 Seconds Band, out of Cedar Rapids, will take the stage. The county band has opened for Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Randy Houser and Blake Shelton, according to its Facebook page.
The annual Family Fun Day is set for Aug. 23 and will include a silent auction, games and music from Standing Hampton. Events will begin about 11 a.m.
Food trucks, including Peppy’s Ice Cream, will set up at all of the events, said Goeldner.
Local vendors will be back in Ladora Saturday, Sept. 6 for the second annual vendor fair. “So far I think I have 15 vendors signed up for that,” said Goeldner. “So hopefully that will be a little bigger than last year.”
Nearly a dozen vendors showed up last year, she said.
Each month’s event has drawn around 200 people in previous years, said Goeldner. Vendors who want to be part of the Ladora summer events should contact Goeldner at 319-432-4647 or message Ladora Development Committee Events on Facebook.
