Legion Post to conduct Memorial Day ceremony
May. 14, 2024 3:35 pm
MARENGO — The public is invited to a Memorial Day ceremony at Marengo Cemetery at 10 a.m. May 27.
Every year, the American Legion Post 76 and American Legion Auxiliary of Marengo conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at the Marengo Cemetery to honor all veterans and to recognize those who have passed away since the previous Memorial Day.
Following the ceremony, activities will move to Gateway Park for the Naval recognition service and placement of a wreath in the waters of the Iowa River.
The group will spend the rest of the day with resident of the Rose Haven Nursing Home, south of the screened porch.
The public is invited to all of the events.
Being remembered this year during the ceremonies will be Julia Foster, Raygena Garringer, Michael Becker, Willard Dickel, William Geary, Allen Misel, Jack Tripolino and Henry Trumpold.
Prior to Memorial Day, flags will be raised along the main drives into the Marengo Cemetery and crosses with flags and poppies will be placed by the graves of all veterans buried in the cemetery.
This is a large undertaking. Volunteers are always welcome to assist in these efforts. To volunteer to help, contact Legion Commander Morris Denson at 319-721-0530 for specific dates and times.
