Local student honored as 'Best of the Class'

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Gage Heyne, a student with English Valleys Community Schools, was honored as a member of the 2025 Best of the Class.
KWWL and the University of Northern Iowa recognized valedictorians or top graduating seniors from across Eastern Iowa at a celebration Saturday, May 3 at Maucker Union on the UNI campus.
Best of the Class students were photographed with KWWL news anchors Luke Burdsall, Elizabeth Klinge, Chief Meteorologist Mark Schnackenberg and Sports Director Rick Coleman.
The students were recorded for a series of promotional announcements that will air on KWWL, and will also be available for viewing at KWWL.com.
In its 41 years of recognizing academic excellence, KWWL's Best of the Class has honored more than 5000 thousand top graduating seniors. Best of the Class is a joint public service, community relations effort that encourages academic excellence among high school students by recognizing students who serve as role models in their communities.
