Locals named to all-conference volleyball teams

Nine Hometown Current area players were recently named to the 2023 South lowa Cedar League all-conference volleyball teams.

SICL West Division champion HLV had three players honored on the first team -- seniors Hailey Jack and Addy Shaull and junior Ema Roberts.

Jack led the West Division with 489 assists, Roberts ranked No. 1 with 351 kills, and Shaull had a West leading 489 digs.

They were joined on the first team by Belle Plaine’s Layne McCloud and Jacey Reineke and Iowa Valley’s Lydia Kriegel.

McCloud led the SICL East Division with 583 assists, and Reineke and Kriegel finished first and second in East kills with 246 and 207, respectively.

Seniors Alyssa Steinback, Belle Plaine; Mckenzie Kempf, HLV, and Kennedy Axmear, English Valleys, earned second-team all-conference honors.

Steinback led the SICL East in service aces (82) and finished second in digs (355). Axmear ranked fifth in blocks (33) and eighth in kills (151), and Kempf was third and second in SICL West kills (221) and blocks (46).

Erica Groom, North Mahaska, was voted Coach of the Year.
