BELLE PLAINE — Four starters return for the Plainsmen volleyball season, after coming off a 19-14 season and falling to conference opponent Sigourney in the second round of the playoffs.
“Kayleah Laughlin is a returning outside hitter. She will be one of the best hitters in the conference this year,“ Belle Plaine head volleyball coach April Kressley said.
“We also return both of our middles, Denisyn Adams and Kyla Shaull and our setter Layne McLeod who may possibly be moving positions to the back row.”
Laughlin had 205 kills last season to go along with 50 blocks and 54 aces serving.
McLeod had a whopping 583 assists out of the team’s 648 last season.
To go along with the returning players is a strong freshman class for the Plainsmen with a lot of upside.
These freshman will push for varsity playing time and provide a lot of options for the team this season, Kressley said.
This also puts some decisions yet to be made on the coach.
“We have a great freshman class coming in, with a setter pushing for some varsity playing time,” Kressley said.
“Lots of decisions to make, but lots of options within the squad. It will be another fun year of volleyball for Belle Plaine.”
The Plainsmen kick off their season at home in a doubleheader in which they will face against Baxter and Highland, both non-conference opponents, Aug. 27.
