WILLIAMSBURG — A man shot his wife, then killed himself on Interstate 80 near Williamsburg June 20, an investigation concluded this week.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release today that David Robert Morse, 56, of Holt, Michigan, shot his wife, Tara Elinor Morse, 52, with a handgun around 9 p.m. June 21 while they were westbound on I-80 near the Johnson County/Iowa County line.
David Morse then stopped the vehicle along the I-80 westbound on-ramp at exit 225 in rural Williamsburg and fatally shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tara Morse survived.
The sheriff’s department initially reported the shooting June 21. The victim’s names were released June 23. The case was resolved this week after the release of an autopsy report from the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Williamsburg Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and the State Medical Examiner.
