MARENGO — Roger Hopwood, of Victor, First District Vice-Commander of the American Legion, presented Post 76 a certificate of appreciation and recognition last month for reaching its membership goal for 2024.
The local post now consists of 119 members.
Marengo Legion Commander Morris Denson received the certificate in the presence of several other post members at the start of the weekly Bingo session in the Legion Hall.
Denson noted that the credit for such an achievement goes to members Ben Brecht and Bill Schlabach who are diligent in collecting membership dues from the current members and in recruiting new members.
New members are always welcome, and Post 76 will pay one-half of the membership dues for a new member for the first two years.
The new building in Marengo has brought increased interest in the activities of the Legion and is busy serving the community with receptions, luncheons, parties and reunions as well as the regular weekly Bingo.
Attendance at Bingo has doubled since the new hall opened.
The Sons of the American Legion is an active growing group of younger men with ties to the American Legion through their fathers and grandfathers. They frequently sponsor breakfasts, fish fries and other events for the community at large.
