Marengo approves pool slide purchase

MARENGO — The City of Marengo approved the purchase last week of a slide for the new swimming pool.

The SplashTacular slide will be 20 feet tall and 153 feet long and will cost the city $265,474.

The city awarded the bid for the pool construction to Portzen Construction of Dubuque in November, but the $4.3 million dollar contract did not include the slide. Purchasing the element directly will save the city money.

SplashTacular was the only company to submit a bid.

The city will pay SplashTacular 30%, or $79,642, to initiate the contract and prepare shop drawings. Another 30% will be due upon receipt of approved shop drawings and prior to fabrication.

When fabrication is completed, the city will pay another 30%. The final 10% will be due upon completion of installation.

The city council approved a second cost-saving action in Resolution 24-47 which amends warranty services in an agreement with JEO Consulting Group.

The City contracted with JEO in January of 2022 to provide survey, design, bidding and permitting, construction administration, resident project representation and warranty for the pool project. The resolution amends the original warranty services, providing warranty coordination through phone calls and emails to contractors to establish a warranty list created by the city.

The change will save the City of Marengo $12,000 on its contract with JEO.
