MARENGO — FFA chapters across the country are celebrating National FFA Week. It's a tradition that dates back to 1947.
The Marengo chapter conducted daily activities, leadership workshops and an all-school assembly to explain how we use agriculture in our daily lives.
While many things within this organization have remained the same over the years, it's no longer a program that focuses just on corn, cows and combines.
Today’s organization prepares students for careers in agriculture, food and natural resources and gives them leadership experiences to become the industry leaders of tomorrow.
This year will begin the Marengo FFA’s 87th year as a chapter. The Marengo Chapter was chartered April 30, 1937.
At Iowa Valley, 110 students in grade 9-12 have been enrolled in 2023-24 agriculture education classes. Most of the students and members live in town2, but all of them believe in the importance of agriculture in their daily lives.
An average of 33 members attended our monthly meetings this past year.
The President Stella Sayers leads the chapter this year.
Some of the highlights of this past year include being awarded a Gold Superior State Chapter Award and a TWO-Star National Chapter Award. These awards are based on the Chapter’s annual Program of Activities which includes a series of activities designed to encourage its members to grow as individuals, to work as part of a team and to serve others.
Brooklyn Kilgard and Lola Frimml serve as vice presidents this year; Claire Smolik and Kathryn Kilgard are secretaries, Alannah McKibben is treasurer and Carli Kanke and Avary Helmrichs are reporters.
David Thomas and Clare Fry are sentinels, Myla Frimml, vice president of committees and Marcia Kilgard, adviser.
The Marengo FFA Chapter ranks sixth in the state out of 263 FFA Chapters in Iowa.
