Marengo FFA members showcased their talents at the Southeast District FFA Convention March 1 at North Scott High School, earning top honors in multiple competitions.
Leading the way was Alannah McKibben. who took first place in Public Speaking, earning a GOLD rating and advancing to the State FFA Convention in April.
McKibben was also recognized for academic excellence, along with Claire Smolik, Jackson Slaymaker, and Asher Stubblefield, for maintaining a grade-point-average of 3.5 or higher and earning the State FFA Academic Award.
The chapter was honored with the State Superior Chapter Award, recognizing its commitment to leadership and service. Avary Helmrichs and Myla Frimml represented Marengo FFA as voting delegates at the convention.
Marengo FFA also had strong showings in Leadership Development Events:
•GOLD: McKibben (Public Speaking — 1st place, advancing to State), Kathryn Kilgard & Michaela Schachtlie (Chapter Website — 5th place)
•SILVER: Shayla Helgeson (Extemporaneous Speaking), Carli Kanke (Radio Broadcasting), Middle School Ag CSI Team (4th place)
•BRONZE: Patrick Peach (Creed Speaking), Ag Issues Team
Their success at Districts followed impressive performances at the subdistrict Contests Feb. 13 at North Mahaska School, where they earned GOLD and advanced to districts in four events — Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Ag Broadcasting and Creed Speaking.
Marengo FFA’s outstanding performances reflect their dedication to leadership and agricultural education. The chapter now looks forward to cheering on Alannah McKibben as she competes at the Iowa FFA State Convention next month.
