MARENGO — Compass Memorial Healthcare in Marengo was one of 377 hospitals across 44 states recognized by Healthgrades last month for patient experience.
Healthgrades, which says it’s the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital, analyzed data from 3,059 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to find its 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award winners.
The award recognizes hospitals that provide top-quality care while ensuring a positive health care experience for patients, Healthgrades said.
“At Compass Memorial Healthcare, we understand that delivering an exceptional patient experience goes beyond clinical care,” said Natasha Hauschilt, director of ancillary services and organization performance for Compass. “It involves listening closely, communicating clearly, ensuring safety, and treating every individual with dignity and respect.
“Compass Memorial is honored to be one of only 12 hospitals in Iowa and one of 377 hospitals across 44 states to receive this prestigious award,” said Hauschilt. “Being named among the top hospitals in the nation for patient experience is a testament to the culture we’ve built; one rooted in compassion, integrity and accountability.
“This recognition affirms that rural hospitals like ours are not only capable of competing, but leading, when quality and patient-centered values are the foundation of everything we do.”
The 2025 awards are based on surveys taken from January through December of 2023. The bottom 20% for overall clinical quality were excluded from consideration, said Healthgrades.
The organization used 10 metrics from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient survey data, it said. Recipients of the patient experience award earned the highest overall experience scores and represent the top 15% of hospitals in the nation for patient experience.
Among the 2025 recipients, 66 hospitals are dual recipients of both the Outstanding Patient Experience Award and the Patient Safety Excellence Award. Only 10 hospitals earned Outstanding Patient Experience, Patient Safety Excellence and America’s Best Hospitals distinctions for 2025, said Healthgrades.
For this annual analysis, Healthgrades evaluated Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems patient survey data with a focus on 10 key patient experience measures. Recipients of the 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award earned the highest overall experience scores, reflecting an unwavering commitment to prioritizing positive person-centered care, Healthgrades said.
In 2025, Healthgrades found that doctor communication, nurse communication and clear communication about care when discharged were the metrics that best predicted a patient’s likelihood to recommend the hospital to family and friends.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement and even more proud of the dedicated team members who made it possible. This recognition strengthens our unwavering commitment to continue improving, innovating, and exceeding the expectations of the patients we are privileged to care for,” said Hauschilt
For over 20 years, Healthgrades has helped its partners reach and engage consumers on their way to the doctor, the company said.
