Marengo looks for new city administrator

MARENGO — With the resignation of Karla Marck, effective Dec. 31, the City of Marengo is looking for a new city administrator.
Marck said last week that the city will list the job opening on the city’s website. Applications will be due at city hall by 5 p.m. Nov. 26, the city council decided, and the council will decide during the Nov. 26 meeting how to proceed.
The City Administrator is responsible for maintenance of fiscal records and their review and control, for financial planning, budgeting and reporting, according to the job posting on the city’s website, marengoiowa.com.
The Administrator represents the city at various meetings and conferences, supervises all city employees excepting police and library staff, coordinates and directs city departments and prepares ordinances, resolutions, correspondence and reports, according to the job description.
The city administrator must attend city council meetings, report on city activities and receive instruction from the city council. The administrator responds to questions, complaints and other concerns from the public and represents the city to the media and community groups.
The administrator represents the city before groups of citizens other units of government and business groups and serves as principal liaison between outside agencies, departments, mayor and city council.
A four-year college degree in public administration, business administration or closely related field is required. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of management in municipal government and budget preparation.
