Marengo sets public hearing for sale of lot

MARENGO — The Marengo City Council will conduct a public hearing Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. for the sale of property at 699 Marengo Avenue, described as lot 1, block 5 of Campbell’s Addition to the City of Marengo.

The city has an offer, said City Manager Karla Marck, but anyone can offer more during the public hearing. It becomes an auction, Marck said.

“It gets you the best price for the property,” said City Attorney Gage Kinsler.

The city acquired the property and razed the house on it. The city wants someone to buy the property and build on it to increase the town’s property tax base.

The property will be sold as is by quit claim deed with no abstract of title.

An opening bid of $7,5000 will be required. Bids will increase at $250 increments.

The sale will be contingent on the buyer increasing the assessed property value to $200,000 within two years of purchase.
