MARENGO — Voters in the Williamsburg Community School District approved a Revenue Purpose Statement Tuesday which specifies the use of revenue from the State of Iowa’s Secure an Advanced Vision for Education fund.
Of the 92 votes cast, 91.3% approved use of the funds for such things as acquiring or installing information technology infrastructure, building or furnishing new buildings, remodeling, repairing and expanding school buildings and purchasing or leasing buildings, equipment or technology.
Had voters not approved the new Revenue Purpose Statement, the Code of Iowa would have dictated that the SAVE funds be used for payment of bonds, reduction of bond levies, reduction of physical plant and equipment levy and reduction of public education and recreational levy when the current Revenue Purpose Statement expires.
Benton Community
Voters in the Benton Community School District approved, by 55.5% to 44.5%, Public Measure A in Tuesday’s special election.
The public measure asked voters in the school district in Benton, Tama and Iowa Counties to authorize a physical plant and equipment tax of not more than $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed valuation of taxable property for a period of 10 years for such uses as purchasing and improving grounds, constructing schoolhouses or buildings or building and opening roads to the same, purchasing or leasing technology and equipment, paying debts contracted for construction of school houses, acquisition of libraries, purchasing transportation equipment and energy conservation.
Ballots approving the measure totaled 813; 651 voters said no to the measure.
