Meet Jay Gorsh

Jay Gorsh attended the Iowa County Democrats April 9 meeting. He announced he’s running for Iowa House District 91.

Gorsh graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1994. His background includes time spent as a public school teacher in Lone Tree, Washington in and Iowa City.

He also coached wrestling for a number of years before going back to school for a PhD. Currently he is a Williamsburg volunteer firefighter and Director of the School of the Wild at the University of Iowa.

According to the University website, School of the Wild is a statewide initiative to increase outdoor learning experiences for elementary and middle school students across Iowa.

Gorsh has worked with 98 schools across 44 counties to provide school children with outdoor learning experiences in local parks.

Gorsh’s background is a great fit for Iowa County constituents who are concerned about what has happened to Iowa’s public schools under the Republican controlled legislature and governor’s office.
