Williamsburg’s Jersey Metz has been the ace on the mound for the Raiders the past two seasons, batting .368 and driving in 31 runs this year.
The junior’s productivity has been rewarded; Metz was named WaMaC West softball player of the year, as all-conference selections released Wednesday.
The Raiders won the West division for the seventh-straight season with a 21-1 conference record.
Metz posts an 18-5 record this season with a 2.13 ERA, 86 strikeouts and a .217 batting average allowed.
Three other Raiders joined Metz on the first-team, highlighted by outfielder Alley Gorsh, who was also an unanimous selection.
Gorsh has been a force from the plate this season. Gorsh’s .453 average, 53 hits and 44 RBIs lead the Raiders this season as they enter their sixth-straight state tournament next week.
Makenna Hughes and Taylor Sanchez were the other first-team selections.
Hughes has been an effective leadoff hitter, posting a .485 on-base percentage to go with a school record 58 stolen bases this season. Sanchez’s six home runs are tied with Gorsh for most on the team.
Five more Raiders earned second-team honors to give the Raiders nine total selections.
In the WaMaC East division, Mount Vernon’s Hayden Gookin was named player of the year. Gookin posted an impressive 0.91 ERA this season to go along with 237 strikeouts.
