MARENGO — Knowing temperatures were expected to be in the 90s, Friends of the Marengo Public Library made a way for families to cool off and have fun during the town’s July 3 celebration.
Several holes of mini-golf were set up around the library, and many people took advantage of the opportunity to play and to escape the heat.
Weston Crawford, of Marengo, made a putt as his father, Beau watched. They’d been out in the heat since about 1 p.m. and went to the library to cool off and play golf, finishing the course just before the library closed at 3 p.m.
Palmer Perez and his sister Dempsey, from Williamsburg, also putted around the library. “Because we like it, and we want to go against each other,” said Dempsey.
“We like to compete against each other,” said Palmer.
Their sister, Daley Perez, also took refuge in the cool air of the library. The children’s babysitter said they’d been playing children’s games on the square before moving inside for a round of golf.
Marengo’s July 4 celebration, which takes place every year on July 3, included a bags tournament, a car show, rolle bolle, a parade, street dance and fireworks.
