Montezuma FFA brings home 4 state titles

AMES — The Montezuma FFA Chapter brought home four state championships and a host of other top honors at the 97th FFA State Leadership Conference held April 14-15 at Iowa State University in Ames.
Farm Business Management
The Farm Business Management team of Broox Stockman, Brady Boulton, Peyton Tindle and Luke Erselius led the way by capturing one of the four state titles and a gold rating for the Montezuma FFA Chapter.
Broox Stockman was high individual overall in the career development event competition with Brady Boulton finishing in second place and Peyton Tindle finishing in fifth place.
FFA teams from 101 chapters participated in this year’s CDE, designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Farm Management.
The 370 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test which had three sections: economic principles, records and analysis and risk management.
All team members worked together to solve a problem related to break even analysis.
Ag Conduct of Meetings
Also capturing top state honors and a gold rating was the Montezuma FFA Ag Conduct of Meetings team. Team members are Olivia Latcham, Sophia Semprini, Abbie Henkle, Isaiah Wilson, Lauryn Larmore, Alexa Rose and Hayden Sutherland.
Emma Snook and Kelsie Mostek are alternates on the team.
Teams participating in this CDE event were composed of seven members organized to act out the duties of an officer team. Teams were required to perform opening ceremonies, demonstrate two parliamentary procedure abilities, and successfully close a meeting.
This event aids in the development of leadership abilities of young members for present and future chapter activities.
Ag Communications
The Montezuma FFA Ag Communications CDE team captured a gold rating and state championship honors. Team members are Vivan Cook, Rylee Thompson, Leah Urfer and Gracie Wilson.
FFA members from 25 chapters participated in this year's CDE. The event provided students the opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of agricultural communications.
The 99 individuals who participated in the event completed several activities including demonstration of skills and problem solving in web design, video production, journalistic writing, and opinion writing, as well as presenting a team media plan.
Seventh Grade CSI
The Montezuma FFA seventh grade Ag Career and Science Investigation team of Abigail Bos, Alyssa Bos, Ava DeWeese, Tait Henkle and Annie Mathes earned a gold rating and state championship honors in the Leadership Development Event.
Nine chapters participated in this year’s LDE.
Ag CSI, is a Leadership Development Event that challenges middle school FFA members to explore the diverse career options in agriculture. Ag CSI also challenges students to think creatively to develop solutions to future agriculturally related issues.
This is a Leadership Development Event for seventh and eighth grade Iowa FFA members. The Iowa FFA Ag CSI LDE is made possible with support from Ag Processing Inc. through the Iowa FFA Foundation.
Marketing Plan CDE
The Montezuma FFA Marketing Plan Team brought home a gold rating and second place finish at state. Team members include Rett Pargeon, Easton Hudnut and Letisia Wilson.
Participants had to develop marketing skills through the development and presentation of a plan that promotes a current or proposed product, supply or service.
The Marketing Plan Career Development Event was made possible with support from the Iowa FFA Foundation Gold Standard Donors.
Ag Sales Team
The Montezuma FFA Ag Sales Team of Krista Cheney, Ellen Cook, Madison Cheney and Bryson Stockman brought home a gold rating and second place honor at this year’s state FFA Convention.
Ellen Cook finished in third place and Bryson Stockman finished in ninth place.
FFA teams from 71 chapters participated in this year's CDE designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of agriculture sales.
The 281 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test, made a sales presentation, and performed a customer relations practicum. All team members worked together to prepare a marketing plan and make an oral presentation of the plan to the judges.
Experience the Action
The Montezuma FFA eighth grade Experience the Action team earned a Bronze honor and 11th place finish at this year’s state FFA Convention
Team members are Kegan Gunderson, Gertie Lally, Jacob Meyer, Mallory Warden and Brooks Wilson.
Team members developed enthusiastic presentations that marketed Agricultural Education and FFA. This program serves to inform and educate the general public regarding the benefits and activities of Ag Ed/FFA programs.
Chapter Display LDE
The Montezuma FFA Chapter Display Team of Sara Bos, Lindsey Henry and Kami Mathes created a chapter display over the Montezuma FFA Greenhouse. The team brought home a gold rating at this year’s state FFA Convention.
Chapter Exhibit is an event that displays information on one chapter project or activity. The information had to include how this one feature of the annual program was organized, conducted and what results were accomplished.
Iowa Degree recipients
Montezuma had three students who earned their Iowa Degrees: Ellen Cook, Bryson Stockman and Madison Cheney. They’ve spent several hours working on their SAEs and qualifying for this distinguished award.
Montezuma FFA Advisors are Rick Swenson and Hannah Garland.
Nationals
Farm Business Management, Conduct of Meetings and Ag Communication teams will represent Montezuma at the 98th National FFA Convention and Expo, Oct. 29 — Nov. 1, in Indianapolis.
