Iowa Valley moves to 3-0 with big win over Belle Plaine

CORYDON — Coming down from Class A a season ago, Wayne Community was a safe bet for favorite in 8-player District 7 football this season.
Montezuma had other ideas and throttled the Falcons 63-20 in a key in-district game Friday night.
The Braves did their damage early, scoring 32 points in the first quarter.
The team’s offensive attack was balanced.
Brady Boulton threw for 227 yards and five touchdowns with three of those scores from Luke Brennan, who had 109 yards.
On the ground, the team totaled 208 yards, with Broox Stockman leading the way with 97.
Dane Strong had a fumble recovery and interception defensively.
Now at 2-0, Montezuma will have a big showdown with Iowa Valley (3-0), for Montezuma’s home opener Friday.
Iowa Valley 74, Belle Plaine 6
BELLE PLAINE — Iowa Valley’s offense and defense were in complete sync in this dominating win.
The Tigers put up 53 points in the first half and totaled 304 yards on the ground in the game.
Nolan Kriegel threw for two touchdowns and added 177 yards and five more scores on the ground.
Layne Peska had a rushing and receiving touchdown.
Defensively, the Tigers allowed one lone touchdown in the second quarter, racking up 13 tackles for loss.
Zavier Pedersen also returned an interception for a 35-yard touchdown.
Wade Sankot led the Plainsmen with 32 rushing yards.
Belle Plaine (0-3) will not play this week because Lone Tree canceled its varsity season.
BGM 76, Colfax-Mingo 12
COLFAX — Another game, another night of video game numbers from BGM’s Beau Burns.
Burns threw for 248 yards and four touchdowns, to go along with 292 yards rushing and four more scores.
Landon Hassett and Nathan Findlay both had productive receiving nights. Hassett caught six passes for 96 yards and Findlay grabbed five for 102. Both had a touchdown.
The Bears’ defense held the Tigerhawks to just one score each half, forcing two fumbles and an interception from Ethan Bridgewater.
BGM (2-0) hosts Madrid Friday.
Solon 33, Williamsburg 14
WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg struck first Friday, but the game was all Spartans after that.
Following a recovered fumble, Rogan Ackerman connected on fourth-and-12 for a 28-yard touchdown pass to Albert Bamrick.
Class 3A No. 6 Solon finally got its passing game going in the second quarter, taking a 20-7 lead into halftime.
Eli Kampman threw for 277 yards for the Spartans. Ackerman threw for 120 yards for the Raiders.
Williamsburg (1-1) will look to bounce-back at PCM Friday.
