Montezuma VFW awards essay writers

MONTEZUMA — The VFW Auxiliary in Montezuma presented awards in January for local, district and state essay contests.
Third graders were to write essays 50 to 75 words long using the prompt “I love America because,” said Rachel Bru, secretary/treasurer for the Auxiliary.
Vivian Ver Meer won first place in the local contest and second place in the district contest. Emersyn Van Kooten was second in the local contest, and Liv Arneson finished third.
The fourth grade essay prompt was “I am grateful for veteran because.” Fourth graders were required to write 75 to 100 words.
Fourth grader Declan Sutfin won first place in local, district and state contests. Katelyn Wolford won second place in the local contest.
Students in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade submitted typed essays of 300 to 400 words for the Patriot Pen Scholarship.
The awards ceremony took place at the Foster Building at Diamond Lake in Montezuma.
