Museum season ends Dec. 8

MONTEZUMA — The Poweshiek County Historical and Genealogical Society research library and museum will close for the season Dec. 8. It will reopen April 1.

A potluck this week marked the seasonal closing of the research library at 200 S. Third St. in Montezuma.

A recent meeting of the Historical and Genealogical Society featured a local veteran in honor of Veterans Day. Brooklyn resident Don Brannian told about serving in the Korean conflict. About 28 people were in attendance and applauded Brannian for his service.

Anyone interested in preserving Poweshiek County history may participate in the Genealogical Society’s efforts to research and maintain family stories about early residents.

The organization needs volunteers to help with landscape and flower care, office work with computers, putting together the quarterly newsletter and organizing and displaying museum artifacts, the Society says.
