Poweshiek residents file for office
MONTEZUMA — Poweshiek County residents filed last week for county offices. Their names will appear on ballots for the June primary elections.
Vying for county supervisor are Republican Jacki Bolen and Democrat Diana Dawley.
County Auditor Missy Eilander, a Republican, is running for re-election.
Republican Loora Wyckoff is running for county recorder to fill a vacancy.
Poweshiek County Sheriff Thomas E. Kriegel is not running for re-election. The only person who filed for office is Republican Matthew Machmann.
The primary election is set for June 4. Absentee ballot request forms may be submitted to the auditor’s office after March 26. Ballots will be mailed out after May 15.
In-person absentee voting will begin Wednesday, May 15 in the auditor’s office.
Voters should preregister to vote by Monday, May 20.
Sieck accepted to Palmer College
DAVENPORT — Megan Sieck of Grinnell has been accepted for enrollment for the 2024 spring trimester in the Doctor of Chiropractic degree program at Palmer College of Chiropractic's Main Campus in Davenport.
Palmer, the first and largest college in the chiropractic profession, has campuses in Davenport, Iowa; San Jose, California; and Port Orange, Florida.
Local students on Palmer dean’s list
DAVENPORT — Palmer College of Chiropractic has released its dean’s list for the main campus in Davenport.
Named to the 2023 fall trimester dean’s list are Emma Cheney of Victor and Trystin Stille of Grinnell.
Ludeking inducted into Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, La.-- Alexander Ludeking of Norway was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Ludeking was initiated at Iowa State University.
Ludeking is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter, said Phi Kappa Phi in a news release.
Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Power & Light host farm events
Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is inviting Iowa farmers to attend its Faith Farms and Climate event in one of four communities around the state. These gatherings bring people of faith and conscience together for a meal and conversation about the intersection of faith, farming and climate action.
The events are set for Monday, April 8, from 6-8 p.m. in Grinnell; Thursday, April 11, 6-8 p.m. in Panora and Tuesday, April 16, from 6-8 p.m. in Boone.
