Farm Bureau awards scholarships
WEST DES MOINES — The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation has granted scholarships to 109 current and future college students, including a Williamsburg resident.
Twenty-seven scholarships were awarded to first-time recipients, and 78 scholarships were renewed for 2024 for students planning to work in the agricultural industry.
Erin Driscoll of Williamsburg, daughter of Dawn and Joe Driscoll, received one of the Farm Bureau scholarships. Driscoll is bound for Kansas State University.
Scholarships are renewable up to four years, for a total of $10,000, for students planning to obtain a two- or four-year degree at an accredited higher education institution, including community colleges and technical schools. Eligibility is based on Farm Bureau membership, academic achievement, financial need, community and extracurricular involvement and letters of recommendation.
Applicants also prepared essays outlining their commitment to rural Iowa.
Hayden accepted into teacher education program
WAVERLY — Ella Hayden of Blairstown has been accepted into the Wartburg College Teacher Education program.
Hayden had to demonstrate effective reflective components in teaching and complete several other requirements to be considered for the program. Admission to the Teacher Education Program allows students to begin professional education courses in their field.
Wartburg College, a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, enrolls about 1,500 students.
HLV alumni banquet set
The annual alumni meeting and banquet for Hartwick, Ladora, Victor, St Johns and HLV will be Saturday, June 22 at the Victor American Legion Hall. Social Hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.
The cost of the meal is $25 per person. RSVP by June 7 to Bernie McGuire, 5585 North St, Bettendorf, IA 52722.
Checks can be made payable to HLV Alumni Association. Please include your year of graduation. HLV Class of 1974 hosting a dance with CATTRAX from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Students attend psychological conference
PELLA — Central College students in the psychology program attended the annual Midwestern Psychological Association conference in Chicago April 17-20.
Kylie Cline, of Grinnell, presented research on social identity and online dating.
Hunter Clemann, of Tama, presented research about perceptions of Eurocentric versus Afrocentric hair, and Ashlynn Ellenbecker, of Tama, presented research about the effects of competition and stakes on performance.
Randall Renstrom, associate professor of psychology, accompanied the Central group to Chicago.
