Benton County girl earns award
DES MOINES — Olivia Hanson, of Benton County, was given the Outstanding Leadership Award during the Iowa State Fair Queen contest Saturday.
Elli Blackford of Clarke County was crowned the 2024 Iowa State Fair Queen, and Lauren Long, of Appanoose County, was named first runner-up.
Second runner-up was Nora Pickhinke, of Sac County.
Schliemann family hosts reunion
BELLE PLAINE — The 87th Schliemann reunion was Aug. 11 at Franklin Park in Belle Plaine.
Officers opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.
Family members came from Iowa City, Mechanicsville, North Liberty, Williamsburg, Luzerne, Atkins, Cedar Rapids, and Belle Plaine and reported on their events and activities from the past year.
Local students on Palmer dean’s list
DAVENPORT — Among students named to the 2024 spring trimester dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractic's Main Campus in Davenport were Sabrina Van Sant, of New Sharon; Trystin Stille, of Grinnell; Emma Cheney, of Victor; and Alexander Wallace, of Blairstown.

Grimm kicks off campaign
Jason Grimm has announced his run for the Iowa County Board of Supervisors.
Grimm will detail his plan to revitalize rural life through entrepreneurship, conservation and generational growth during a kickoff event at his home Sunday, Aug. 18, from 3-5 p.m.
Residents should bring their lawn chairs to the event at 2835 225th St., Williamsburg.
