Church plans community sing
Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
NORTH ENGLISH — Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church, at 1897 294th St. in North English, will host a community hymn sing Sunday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m.
This will be a time of singing Christmas carols and other hymns. Anyone may prepare a piece of special music or a favorite reading with which to bless the congregation.
Everyone is invited to bring along a favorite finger food snack item to share during the fellowship time which will follow.
Meyer accepted into Wartburg Teacher Education Program
WAVERLY — Jonathan Meyer has been accepted into the Wartburg College Teacher Education Program.
Meyer, of Tama, had to demonstrate effective reflective components in teaching and complete several other requirements to be considered for the program, the college said in a press release.
Wartburg College, a four-year liberal arts college internationally recognized for community engagement, enrolls about 1,500 students.
Local nursing student earns pin
CEDAR RAPIDS — A Marengo resident was one of more than 30 nursing students pinned at Mount Mercy University Dec. 12.
Sidney Spence was pinned during this month’s nursing pinning ceremony.
Students graduate Upper Iowa University
FAYETTE — Upper Iowa University released names of its August graduates.
Among them was Jordan Staker, of Tama, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in human services, and Gage Hazen-Fabor, of Ladora, who graduated cum laude meritum with a Bachelor of Science degree in conservation management.
Newton inducted into honor society
WAVERLY — Alison Newton, of Blairstown, was inducted into the Iota Chapter of the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education at Wartburg College Nov. 21.
Kappa Delta Pi was founded by William Bagley, Truman Kelly and Thomas Edgar Musselman in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching.
