Loras College announces fall dean’s list
DUBUQUE — Loras College has announced the names of students who achieved dean’s list status for the 2024 fall semester.
Students on the list include Lauren Riggle, of Amana; William Lipsius, of Kalona; Natalie Bemer, of Marengo; and Kyrah Sissel, of Williamsburg.
A student must earn a 3.5 grade-point average and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours to be recognized.
Area students make Upper Iowa dean’s list
FAYETTE — Upper Iowa University has announced the dean’s list for the 2024 fall semester.
Among those named are Demitri Ferneau, of Tama, Chase Wickwire, of Belle Plaine; Shelly Arp, of Williamsburg; Edward Burgess, of North English; and Brook Klouw, of Ladora;
To be honored, a student must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade-point average and be enrolled as a full-time student.
Local student on dean’s list at Bemidji State
BEMIDJI, Minn. — Matthew Turley, a Bemidji State University student from Grinnell, has earned dean's list honors at BSU for the fall 2024 semester.
To be eligible for BSU's dean's list, a student must enroll in at least 12 credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester. Turley was one of 703 students who earned Fall 2024 dean's list honors at BSU.
Marengo resident named to dean’s list
LINCOLN, Neb. — Caitlyn Riley Cronbaugh, of Marengo, has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2024-25 academic year.
Cronbaugh, a sophomore majoring in forensic science, was named to the dean’s list for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Amana woman accompanies ‘Hansel and Gretel’
PELLA — Central College returns to the stage with a production of the opera "Hansel and Gretel" this Valentine's Day weekend.
Lauryn Venema, of Amana, a history major, is a member of the orchestra. Venema is a history major.
This special adaptation has been shortened to make it more suitable for younger audiences. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Douwstra Auditorium on Central's campus.
Iowa State honors fall graduates
AMES — — More than 1,600 graduates received degrees from Iowa State University this fall. Graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies were held Dec. 20-21 at Hilton Coliseum.
Among them were Cade Austin Shramek, of Amana, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering; Ashlyn Huff, of Montezuma, who graduated with an animal science degree; and Spencer Karkosh, of South Amana, who graduated cum laude with a degree in industrial technology.
Belle Plaine students graduating in the fall were Zachary Thomas Brecht, agricultural and life sciences education, and Katherine Cubbage, animal science and equine science and management.
Olivia VanWaus, of Victor, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in biology, and Lincoln Cale Yoder, of Wellman, graduated cum laude with a degree in agricultural studies.
Olivia Ann Caron graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in event management, and Nicholas Brian Marovets graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and health. Caron and Marovets are from Williamsburg.

IOWA CITY — More than 1,000 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa were named to the president's list for the 2024 fall semester.
Included on the list are Bridget Blanchard, of Grinnell; Mia Boulton, of Montezuma; Macy Morrow, of Belle Plaine; and Adelynn Wijaya, of Semarang.

South English woman makes ECC dean’s list
IOWA FALLS — One hundred forty-nine students were named to the fall 2024 dean’s list at Ellsworth Community College.
Among the honorees was Abigail Harris, of South English, who earned a 4.0 grade-point average.
MCC honors students for grades
MARSHALLTOWN — Two hundred and sixty-four students were named to the fall 2024 dean’s list at Marshalltown Community College.
On the list were Imigyn Stratton, of North English, and Micah Garringer, of Williamsburg.
