AMANA — Emilie Hoppe drew the most votes in the Amana Colony Land Use District elections Oct. 3.
Residents cast 18 votes for Hoppe, 12 for Norine Magee and 13 for Joseph D. Parcell. The three will fill the three open positions on the board for the next year.
MARENGO — An orphan train rider, a kidnapper, a betrayed wife, church missionaries, wealthy businessmen and a land baron’s wife have something in common.
Darcy Daugherty, author of “Iowa’s Lost History on the Titanic,” will explain the relationship during a program at the Marengo Public Library Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.
