Schliemann family has reunion
BELLE PLAINE -- The 88th Schliemann reunion took place Aug. 10 at Franklin Park in Belle Plaine. Officers opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.
Family members came from Cedar Rapids, Atkins, North Liberty, Luzerne, Iowa City, Belle Plaine and Earling, Iowa and reported on their events and activities from the past year.
Compass Memorial offers Medicare seminar
MARENGO -- Compass Memorial Healthcare’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program counselors will host a seminar about Medicaid Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6-8 p.m. in the East Meeting Room of Marengo Public Library, 235 E. Hilton St. in Marengo.
Anyone who wishes to attend should call 319-642-8046 by Sept. 9 to register.
“Welcome to Medicare” will explain Medicare Part A and Part B benefits, the prescription drug benefit (Part D), Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare supplement insurance. For more information or questions call 319-642-8046.

Students’s artwork chosen for calendar
DES MOINES – Students from Poweshiek and Benton Counties were among 16 Iowa students whose artwork was chosen for inclusion in the 2025-2026 Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar. Harper Van Erselde, of Grinnell, Logan Rausch, of Van Horne, and the other students were recognized during a ceremony at the 2025 Iowa State Fair.
Choose Iowa is the state’s signature brand for Iowa grown, made and raised food, beverages and ag products. The annual Choose Iowa Coloring Calendar contest encourages Iowa students to create artwork that highlights the importance and productivity of Iowa agriculture.
Students 18 years or younger are eligible to enter the annual contest and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship received 289 submissions from communities across the state.
Free Choose Iowa Coloring Calendars will be available for fairgoers at the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s booths in the Agriculture Building and Varied Industries Building while supplies last. A digital version of the calendar is available on the Choose Iowa website.
