Irish tenor to visit Holbrook
HOLBROOK — World renowned Irish Tenor Anthony Kearns will make a return visit to Old St. Michael's Church in Holbrook Sunday, Oct. 12 for a 2 p.m. concert.
Kearns, a solo artist and member of the Irish Tenors, has sung for princes and presidents, yet always enjoys his visits to the Iowa countryside. He has said the Holbrook area reminds him of Ireland.

A reception with Kearns will follow the concert.

Arborist to teach tree pruning in Marengo
The Iowa County Master Gardeners will host a tree pruning workshop with arborist, Guy Gibson.
The workshop will begin with an informational presentation at 9 a.m. Oct. 11 at Marengo Public Library and will continue with a hands-on demonstration at Gateway Park in Marengo.
Attendees may bring their own tools — pruning shears, loppers, or saws — or share with others who attend.
The Iowa County Master Gardeners, in collaboration with North English and Victor Libraries, will host pumpkin/succulent centerpiece workshops Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. Participants should register beforehand at the library of their choice.
The workshop costs $5.
The Iowa County Master Gardeners, in collaboration with Williamsburg and Victor libraries, will host holiday porch pot workshops Nov. 15 and 16.
The Victor workshop will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 16. Williamsburg will host two workshops Nov. 16, one at 1 p.m. and one at 3 p.m.
Register at the libraries anytime after Oct. 20. The cost of the workshop is $15. Participants should bring their own pots (up to 14 inches in diameter) filled with soil.
Klassen Graduates from University of Texas
AUSTIN, Texas — Andrea Klassen, of Grinnell, graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a doctor of philosophy degree in music.
Klassen was one of more than 1,600 students who graduated during the summer and received an undergraduate, master's or doctoral degree.
