AMANA — The Amana Community Library will host an ImpactLife blood drive, and donating is easier and more comfortable than ever.
ImpactLife now uses the OrSense non-invasive hemoglobin reader, making the pre-donation check quicker, cleaner and completely pain-free, according to a press release from the library.
Instead of a finger stick, a ring-shaped sensor gently slides onto a donor’s thumb and measures the hemoglobin levels using light.
This new technology is more accurate, so someone who’s has been deferred before may be accepted now.
It’s also eco-friendly, producing zero waste — no lancets, no strips, no disposables, the press release says.
Impact Life will have a blood drive Thursday, Dec. 18 from 1:30-6 p.m. in the donor bus in the Amana Elementary Parking Lot, 3023 220th Trail, Middle Amana.
Amana Community Library can qualify for a special grant with 20 successful donations.
As a special thank you, all donors will receive an eGift card.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh more than 110 pounds and possess a photo ID to donate. Donors should eat and hydrate before donating.
Walk-ins are accepted. Appointments are preferred. To sign up, call the Amana Library at 319-622-3192 or email amanalibrary@ccaschools.org.
