NORTH ENGLISH — The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a possible drive-by shooting in North English.
The discharge of the weapon was described as “accidental.”
At 9:41 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, Iowa County Dispatch received report of a possible accidental shooting at 124 S. Main St., Apt. 3 in North English, according to Iowa County Sheriff Rob Rotter.
Iowa County Sheriff’s deputies and Williamsburg police officers responded to the call and found a bullet hole on the outside of the building at the Main Street address about two feet below a child care business sign.
The Abbys Childcare is located at 124 S. Main St.
The bullet entered an apartment inside the building on an upward trajectory, Rotter said. The bullet struck a fluorescent light fixture on the ceiling, breaking the fluorescent tubes.
The bullet then penetrated the opposite wall but did not enter the bedroom on the opposite side of the wall.
No one was injured by the shot, said Rotter, and residents of the apartment building had no idea who might have wanted to shoot at the building.
Witnesses in the area reported seeing a full-sized white pickup in the area when the shot rang out, Rotter said. Witnesses didn’t get a license plate number.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office.
