North English Fortnightly Club donates to local projects
May. 9, 2023 2:13 pm
The North English Fortnightly Women’s Club met at Carolyn Elwood’s home on Saturday, May 6 at 9 a.m.
The gathering began with a finger food breakfast consisting of fruit kebabs, breakfast casserole muffins, bacon wrapped water chestnuts, lemon tartlets and coffee cake.
Amy called the meeting to order and Tara read Spring Meditation, a poem. The flag pledge and club collect were recited before 15 members answered roll call by sharing what they think of when they think of Fortnightly. Tara read the April meeting minutes. Katie made a motion to approve the minutes as read and Kathy VanBerkum provided the second.
Bonnie reported on correspondence. She had received an email at the end of April from Trish Gaherty about her husband being with hospice. Bonnie also received a thank-you from PACE. She sent thank-you’s and $50 to Kristin Peiffer and Dave Jackson, as well as a thank-you to Sue Mertz, and $150 to EVFFA for Main Street flowers. Bonnie shared the end-of-the-year treasurer’s report. The ending balance as of May 5 was $1,162.00. Members are asked to pay their $20 dues (plus) in lieu of having a second fundraiser. Amy pointed out expenses outpaced income this year, so the club may want to think about raising dues or having another fundraiser at some point during the year.
Amy passed around the sign-up sheet for programs and meetings. She offered to remain as acting president, Tara was voted in as secretary once more, and Bonnie reported that Kathy Huber had offered to take over treasurer duties with Bonnie remaining as a backup/ second signature. Members discussed Miller Park cleanup and decided to meet for this on Tuesday, May 23 at 9 a.m.
Carol Montz made a motion, seconded by Carolyn Elwood, to donate $200 to Fun Days; motion passed. Susan Elwood made a motion, seconded by Carol Montz, to donate $250 to the Knoll Ridge pool; motion passed. Tara provided News Flash by sharing activities occurring on May included the coronation of King Charles III, the 149th Kentucky Derby and Pella’s Tulip Festival.
