Only in America
Seven hundred million dollars

I just heard “they are going to pay a man, (as in Homo sapiens) $700,000,000 to play Baseball! Seventy million per year for 10 years!
Wow. Double wow. That is a lot of money!
It doesn’t matter if you like baseball, football or sports of any kind as far as that goes. The point is, the club is willing to spend that kind of money on one person, and a person from a foreign country no less, to promote their product, a baseball game.
Don’t like it? Seams unfair? Don’t support the brand or the products that sponsor them. Not the point.
I bring this up because in other than in a free-market society this possibility cannot exist. A Representative Republic, which The States of America is, not a democracy, never intended to be, allows this type of transaction to take place.
In our form of government, you, as an individual, are worth, monetarily, whatever the market will bear. (Or is it bare? But I digress.)
For each individual to have the possibility of reaching this potential, we must be able to do so without the stench of “everyone is equal.” We are not. But that is a topic for another time.
As this election period is upon us, let me take a little of your time to ask you to think of where the Democratic Party is trying to take us. Cradle to the grave, womb to the tomb, I’m entitled.
You are not. If you add more to society, you make more. Should you or I be held accountable? Yes. A very big, huge yes. We just haven’t gotten there yet. Workin’ on it.
Caucuses for Honey Creek Township will be held at the Marengo Public Library at 7 p.m. Jan. 15. As temporary chairman, I ask everyone eligible to get out and vote.
I truly want everyone to vote. Always remember, if you didn’t vote, you have no right to complain.
