Oxford conservative announces run for District 91

OXFORD --- Judd Lawler of Oxford announced today that he is running for State Representative in Iowa House District 91, which covers Iowa County and Western and Northern Johnson County.

Incumbent Brad Sherman is not seeking re-election The Republican primary election is scheduled for June 4, 2024.

A seventh-generation Iowan, Lawler has deep roots in District 91. He began his education in the HLV school district and completed high school in Johnson County.

Lawler and his wife, Dr. Ericka Lawler, a hand surgeon, have lived near Cosgrove for 17 years. They have two children.

“I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative,” said Lawler. “Nobody will outwork me in this campaign. I’m a lifelong Republican who will stand up for the values of rural and small-town Iowa, and I have a history of speaking truth to powerful people. That won’t change.”

Lawler has held a wide variety of jobs, which he believes has prepared him to represent the people of his district. “I worked on my grandfather’s farm, flipped burgers, started a house-painting business, and home-schooled my kids,” he said.

“I also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, protecting taxpayer dollars from frivolous lawsuits and prosecuting Wall Street crooks. I understand how legislation gets watered down, and I will keep an eagle-eye on bills to make sure they are good policy instead of loophole-riddled nonsense.”

Lawler believes that Sherman was an excellent representative of the district. “I voted twice for Brad, and I intend to continue his work as a true conservative who cares about ordinary people and the work they do for their families.”
