Patient care technician receives ROSE award
Aug. 14, 2024 9:49 am
GRINNELL — UnityPoint Health—Grinnell Regional Medical Center honored Asia Brown, patient care technician, with this year’s ROSE Award.
ROSE, an acronym for Recognizing Outstanding Service Excellence, is presented to a person who consistently demonstrates excellence through clinical expertise, extraordinary service and compassionate care, said UnityPoint in a press release.
Brown works as an inpatient medical/surgical department and was nominated by a patient for providing compassionate care that was above and beyond expectations.
The patient nomination says, “Asia is very attentive and is never short or grumpy. She made me feel special.
“She also helped my 85-year-old mother by getting her a wheelchair and bringing her to my room. She did this twice!
“I didn’t worry about my mom, as I knew Asia would provide excellent care for her just like she did for me. This young woman will go far in her career.
“Asia ALWAYS took her time and never rushed me. She could ease my mind and truly went above and beyond.”
Brown’s passion for healthcare began at a young age when her brother was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, according to Grinnell Regional.
Brown was inspired by the nurses and child life specialists who worked to help make pediatric patients’ life better.
Brown began her nursing career in 2012 as a certified nursing assistant. She has worked in long-term care units while specializing in dementia care.
Brown also spent time at a long-term pediatric facility where she helped children with their daily living activities. Brown joined the Grinnell Regional team in 2023.
Brown was presented with the award while surrounded by team members, leaders and son in June.
