Plainsmen get first two wins of the season
BGM moves to 5-0 in conference play

After dropping their first two games on the season, the Belle Plaine baseball team got in the win column twice this week.
The first win came Monday at home against English Valleys. The Plainsmen came out on top, 14-0.
Cooper Hoey and Hayden Neuhaus had two RBIs a piece for the Plainsmen.
Mason Walter pitched all five innings, racking up eight strikeouts.
On Wednesday, again at home, the Plainsmen defeated Montezuma 9-3.
Ty Alcott had two hits and three RBIs for the Plainsmen, and pitched six of the seven innings with seven strikeouts.
Here is a look at a few other area baseball highlights from the week.
Raiders split with Vikings
VINTON — In a WaMaC West doubleheader Monday, Williamsburg split with Vinton-Shellsburg 6-3 and 7-6.
The Raiders took game one behind a complete game from Logan Schmidt, who allowed one earned run while striking out nine.
Henry Simmons had two RBIs.
In game two, the Raiders totaled eight hits with four RBIs.
BGM tops Montezuma
MONTEZUMA — The Braves struck first in this one, but back-to-back three-run innings propelled BGM to a 6-3 victory Friday.
Beau Burns and Finn Calahan had two RBIs apiece. Cael Coburn pitched five innings on the mound, allowing no earned runs.
BGM moved to 6-1 on the season after the win and are 5-0 in conference play.
Luke Erselius had both of Montezuma’s two hits.
Tigers get back on track
MARENGO — After three straight losses, Iowa Valley got back in the win column with a 12-2 victory over Keota Friday.
Caleb Haack pitched all five innings, striking out seven. He added three RBIs at the plate.
Chance Hoyt and Zavier Pedersen had two RBIs apiece.
On Saturday at home, the Tigers split their two games, defeating Lansing Kee 7-6, and falling to Tipton 10-7.
Mason Hoyt had two RBIs in the win. The Tigers came out on top after extra innings.
