Plainsmen lose good fight; HLV falls hard

CLARKSVILLE — It was a tough opening night to the 2023 season for the Belle Plaine and HLV football teams. Making their 8-man debut, the Plainsmen put up a good fight before losing 34-22 at Clarksville, and the Warriors got manhandled at Montezuma, 64-6.
Belle Plaine accumulated 357 yards of total offense, including 214 rushing and 143 passing.
Ty Alcott led the ground game, carrying the ball 34 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns, the longest being 11 yards. Lane Vokoun added 15 yards on four carries.
Alcott also completed 5-of-7 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown to Riley Simmons. Sam DeMeulenaere had four catches for 103 yards.
DeMeulenaere, Vokoun, Wade Sankot and Jeremy Reineke each scored a two-point conversion.
Defensively, Alcott collected a team-high 8.5 tackles, six of those solo. Reineke added five solo tackles, Vokoun chipped in four and Jax Stamp had four tackles for losses.
HLV was simply no match for Montezuma, who rushed for 237 yards against them and passed for another 145 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Brady Boulton led the Braves, completing 9-of-14 passes for 120 yards and three TDs, and rushing six times for 80 yards and two more scores.
Individual and team stats for the Warriors were not available.
