VICTOR — Belle Plaine’s game plan was to run the football until HLV stopped them.
The Warriors couldn’t and the Plainsmen rolled to a 60-6 victory in 8-man action last Friday night at Victor.
Belle Plaine rushed the ball 56 of 61 offensive plays, gained 421 yards and scored eight touchdowns against an HLV defense that in the first two weeks has yielded 802 total yards and 124 points.
Juniors Ty Alcott and Lane Voukon both had 100-yard games for BP, Alcott going for 116 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown and Voukon 106 yards on eight touches and two scores.
Sophomores Wade Sankot and Aiden Timm combined for 110 yards on 17 carries, scoring one touchdown apiece; junior Adyson Stark logged 49 yards and senior Jeremy Reineke finished with 21 yards, finding the end zone three of the seven times his number was called.
Stark, Reineke and freshman Quentin O’Leary each ran for two-point conversions.
The Plainsmen didn’t waste any time showing their dominance, scoring on the second play of the game, then recovering an onside kick and scoring again to lead 12-0 before many of the fans had settled into their seats.
By halftime Belle Plaine’s lead had grown to 20 points, 26-6, and the Plainsmen continued to have their way with the Warriors in the second half, putting up 32 more unanswered points.
HLV’s lone touchdown came on a 24-yard pass from senior quarterback Max Henstorf to senior wideout Carter Sholtus. Besides that, the Warriors’ offense was nearly non-existent, totaling 77 yards on 44 snaps.
Belle Plaine recovered five HLV fumbles. Two of those recoveries were by senior Jax Stamp, one resulting in a touchdown. Voukon, sophomore Will Sankot and freshman Derek Kressling also got in on the action. Sankot added a team-high eight tackles.
Having evened their record at 1-1, the Plainsmen will make their home debut to the 2023 season this Friday night against Melcher-Dallas (0-2).
HLV, meanwhile, will try to get into the win column at home against English Valleys (1-1). Kickoff for both contests is 7 p.m.
