Plainsmen upset Clarksville in season opener
Clarksville advanced to State quarterfinals last season

BELLE PLAINE — The Plainsmen started their football season off strong and showed what they’re capable of, winning convincingly over Clarksville Friday night.
The Indians were State quarterfinalists last season and are ranked 8th in The Gazette preseason 8-player poll.
“After a slow start we put it together in the third quarter to pull away,” said Belle Plaine head football coach Todd Bohlen. “It was a great team effort both offensively and defensively to get the win.”
Calamus-Wheatland 46, English Valleys 6
WYOMING— The English Valleys Bears fell 46-6 in their season opener in an out of district football matchup against Calamus-Wheatland Friday night.
Drew Fisher had the lone touchdown for the Bears and rushed for 159 yards on 25 carries.
The Bears will look to get back on track in their home opener against Midland next week.
Montezuma 64, HLV 0
VICTOR — The HLV Warriors were shut out in their opener off a strong rushing attack from the Montezuma Braves.
Brady Boulton rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns, and the team had 342 yards.
The Warriors face off against Belle Plaine next week.
