MARENGO — Marengo police investigated a minor vehicle accident with minor injuries Tuesday, Jan. 14 between Big G and Casey’s on the west side of town.
Police were called to the accident about 4:15 p.m.
According to the accident report, David Ray Schlesselman, 29, of Van Horne, was pulling out of the Big G parking lot in a 1999 Chevrolet C25 truck with the intent to cross Dillin St. and proceed to Casey’s. Because of the intensity of the sun in the west, he didn’t see any traffic coming and started to drive across Dillin Street, the report says.
Fred James Miller Jr., 66, of Marengo, had just turned off Western Avenue in a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox and was eastbound on Dillin St. He struck Schlesselman’s vehicle broadside.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no air bags deployed.
Miller complained of some soreness related to the seat belt and was examined and released by ambulance staff, the accident report says.
The truck was driven from the scene; the Equinox was privately towed.
Schlesselman was issued a citation for failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
