Post 76 honored to be part of activities in Marengo
Jun. 9, 2023 10:29 am
To the Editor,
It is the sacred obligation of all Americans to honor our deceased veterans by performing these time-honored duties.
I hope everyone had the opportunity to observe Memorial Day on May 29. It was a busy weekend for Post 76 and the Auxiliary. Over 140 large flags were put up on May 27 at the Marengo Cemetery and taken down on Memorial Day afternoon. Our Iowa Valley football team made quick work of these tasks. Thank you coaches and players.
The Auxiliary sold poppies and along with volunteers put up crosses and flags on veterans’ headstones. It is a large task and inevitably a few get missed, but everyone tries their best. We apologize for any that were missed.
Our ceremonies were well attended. Thank you, Lori Foster, for leading us in singing the national anthem at all three locations. How strong the voices were at Rose Haven, those folks know that freedom is not free, they love their country!
June 14 is Flag Day. If you have a flag that you wish to retire, drop it off at Ben’s Repair and Welding or call me at (319) 642-3426. The public is invited on Flag Day at 10:30 a.m. to the retiring of flags at Gateway Park.
Independence Day will be here before we know it. You can count on us to lead the July 3rd parade. Hope to see you there.
Thank you again for your support. Football team, soon enough Post 76 will be honored to present the colors at our home games. Everyone have a safe summer.
God Bless America.
Sincerely, Morris Denson, Commander, Post 76, Marengo
