GRINNELL — UnityPoint Health — Grinnell Public Health will provide multiple influenza vaccination clinics throughout Poweshiek County during October.
Various vaccines are available at these clinics including Fluzone High-Dose for adults over 65 and older and the FluLaval flu vaccine for all.
The Moderna COVID-19 booster vaccine will also be available for individuals 65 years and older in office by appointment at Public Health.
“Influenza and other respiratory illnesses typically begin to spread in October,” said Brooke Holder, public health manager.
“Adults aged 65 and older are at greater risk for serious complications from the flu. Getting the flu vaccine each year helps reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and protects those around you. Every flu season is different, so staying up to date with vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to stay healthy.”
Anyone getting a vaccination needs to show an insurance or Medicare card. For individuals 19 and older without insurance, the cost per flu vaccine is $35 for the FluLaval and $65 for the Fluzone High-Dose.
Clinic attendees should arrive at 3:30 p.m. to allow the public health team ample time to set up after schools are dismissed and the clinic starts.
No appointments are necessary.
