AMANA — Merchants, nonprofit groups and individuals can apply now to purchase and decorate trees for this season’s Tannenbaum Forest.
Donations from visitors and proceeds from the tree decorating will benefit the Stead Family Childrens Hospital of the University of Iowa and Iowa County charities.
Forms are available from the Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau at the Visitor Center in Amana.
The 6- to 8-foot trees can be purchased for $80. Members of ACCVB will pay only $60.
Forms should be returned to the ACCVB office by Sunday, Nov. 16.
The Amana Society Bulletin lists the following rules for tree decorators.
Each participating organization is responsible for decorating its own tree with lights, tree skirting and decorations and for taking down the decorations when the event ends.
Amana Colonies Festivals will provide signs for the groups and businesses.
Handouts are not allowed.
Decorations and themes should be appropriate for all ages.
All bottles and cans must be empty. Food items should not be used on the trees due to mice.
Trees may not be decorated to reflect or promote a political party.
Purchasers of trees may decorate them Monday Nov. 24, from 11 a.m. — 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.
Tear-down is Sunday Dec. 21 from 4:30 — 7 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. — 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.
Anyone with a tree in the forest should volunteer to work a shift at the front door.
