RIPPEY — The Williamsburg baseball team got to play on a part of history Friday in a 7-5 loss to Creston.
That piece of history is Rippey baseball field.
Rippey field has been around longer than most ballfields. Back in the 1940s it was one of the premiere baseball fields in the state of Iowa.
It was one of only four fields in the state that had lights at the time. The field also hosted four state championships.
East Greene, which is now Greene County, vacated the field back in 2012.
After a whole decade of no baseball at Rippey field, the small town of Rippey brought baseball return to back to the field in 2022 with a game against Nevada and Perry.
This year, Williamsburg had the honor and opportunity to play at the historic venue.
Now to the game itself.
The Raiders got down early 3-0 but battled back.
Several Raiders hit the ball well throughout the game bringing in a run in five of seven innings played.
Nile Sinn had two hits while both Cael Moore and Micah Lang hit solo home runs.
The game was tied going into the final inning but Creston scored two and held onto the lead in the bottom of the 7th.
“I thought Logan (Schmidt) pitched well, we just didn’t make a lot of plays,” Raider head coach Nathan King said.
