Raider boys take top honors at Ruth Ahrens Invite, Bobcat Relays

The Ruth Ahrens Invitational at Marengo and Bobcat Relays at Van Horne provided good competition last week for the Williamsburg track and field boys.
Coach Matt Matthes' Raiders finished first or second in 11 events and scored 140 points to place third out of eight teams Tuesday, April 11, in the Ruth Ahrens Invite.
Solon won the meet with 170 points and Benton Community took runner-up honors with 160.
Jake Buchholtz and Devin Busch claimed individual titles for Williamsburg in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, and the Raiders won the 4 x 800 and 4 x 100 meter relays.
Runners on the 4 x 800 team were Buchholtz, Sam Rich, Tyler McMullin and Calvin Seelman. Carson Huedepohl, Clayten Steckly, Braylon Wetjen and Owen Douglas formed the 4 x 100 team that qualified for the Drake Relays in 43.53 seconds.
Trey O'Neil collected second places in the high jump and 400-meter low hurdles, Grady Wetjen and Derek Weisskopf took runner-up honors in the long jump and discus, and Braylon Wetjen and Busch ran second in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.
Also taking seconds were the 1,600-medley relay team of Dylan Weisskopf, Alex Reese, Carter Capper and Henry Simmons, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Reese, Simmons, Dylan Weisskopf and Landon Jepson.
BOBCAT RELAYS
Williamsburg scored 73 points to place fourth out of 14 teams Thursday, April 14, in the Bobcat Relays.
Championship performances by Derek Weisskopf in the shot put and the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Huedepohl, Steckly, Douglas and Kellen Cockrell led the Raiders.
Second places were recorded by Douglas in the 100-meter dash and the 4 x 200 (Huedepohl, Cockrell, Douglas, Braylon Wetjen) and 4 x 800 (Seeman, Buchholtz, Busch, Rich) relay teams.
