Raiders 3rd, 4th at home invitational
WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg hosted its annual track invitational April 15, a make up date from April 2.
Cedar Rapids Prairie won the boys side, and Maquoketa won the girls. The Raider boys finished fourth, and the girls were third.
“It was fun to host a really high level meet with 16 really good teams,” Williamsburg girls coach Nick Nordheim said. “I thought our kids took advantage of finally having some great weather and had some awesome performances.”
Nordhiem was impressed with the 4 x 400 team, which qualified for the Drake Relays with its time of 4:03.82, good for first place.
Shannon Finn, Makenna Hughes, Keston Spratt and Ava Hocker made the foursome.
“Shannon hasn’t ran a 400 in a while and she looked amazing,” Nordheim said. “Makenna is just always so tough. Then the two freshmen on the end were phenomenal. They are big-time competitors and will only continue to gain confidence.”
On the boys side, Derek Weisskopf continued to pace the Raiders with a win in the high jump (6-foot-8). He was second-place in the shot put and discus.
Belle Plaine, Iowa Valley, English Valleys and HLV also ran in Williamsburg.
Gage Heyne of English Valleys won the boys 800 in 1:58.39.
On the girls side, Ema Roberts of HLV won the high jump (5-4) and Kennedy Axmear of English Valleys won the shot put (39-3.5).
